Gold-en Rules of Promoting Newsletter #14
***Learn How to Cash in on Cinco de Mayo***
May 2, 2007
Hey,
I just wanted to send you a quick reminder that this weekend is
Cinco de Mayo (Saturday, May 5th) and it's a great opportunity
to throw a big-time party that rakes in the cash...
Cinco de Mayo is one of those special holidays that everyone
loves to go out and celebrate whether they are Mexican or not.
(The same goes for St. Patrick's day)
Since Cinco de Mayo falls on a Saturday this year, you can
expect to see HUGE numbers of people going out to celebrate
all day and all night.
No matter what city or town you are located in, people are
going to be out in big numbers this weekend so if you're
looking to make some extra money or you've been thinking of
getting started in party promoting, this is a great weekend
to get started!
If you're eager to get started now, download a copy of my
step-by-step guide to throwing parties at:

Cinco de Mayo is one of those cool holiday's that it's okay
to try something new and different, so I thought I'd pass
along a few ideas/suggestion's of thing's that I've done over
the years to help start you out on the right path...
**Throw a Cinco de Mayo Pool Party...
It's May and the weather is getting pretty nice all over, so if
you're able to, take advantage of the fact that it's a Saturday
which means most people aren't working or in school, and throw a
pool party with lots of Corona's and tequila.
It's a great way to separate yourself from everyone else that's
throwing a party in a typical bar with a pinata as decoration.
**Make it a Costume Party...
People like to dress up when it's easy and fun. I hate when
promoters turn every event into a dress-up party, but Halloween
was six month's ago and people are ready to dress up again, so
here's a great chance for them to do it.
Girls can make sexy outfits out of poncho's and guys throw
on a fake mustache or sombrero and they're ready to go out
and party hard. It's so easy to do and it takes your party
to another level.
**Promote and Provide "Mexican Drink Specials":
Run a drink special (i.e. 1/2 price tequila poppers
from 8-10p) to bring in the early crowd.
It's a Saturday, which means you're not going to get an
after-work crowd, so in order to draw a nice sized
crowd early on, drink specials is the way to go.
It's Cinco de Mayo, so people are going to want 3 things:
-Corona's
-Tequila
-Margarita's
Use these drinks in conjunction with a good drink special to
pack the venue early on, and your success for the rest of the
night is almost guaranteed.
Make sure you promote that these drinks will be served for
your drink special, as well as the rest of the night (since it
is Cinco de Mayo after all)...so that means you need to advertise
this on your website, your email blast, on your flyer's, and on
any other marketing piece you put in front of your clients.
(I know this might sound like common sense, but last year
I got an email for a competitor's Cinco de Mayo party with
2 for 1 Coors Light...Coors Light, not Corona's, on Cinco de
Mayo...I wish I was making this up)
Another idea to go along with your drink specials...
One year, I hired a few good looking girls and guys dressed
in Poncho's and Sombrero's that went around my venue wearing
these backpacks filled with frozen margarita's giving them to
anyone that wanted free shots of the margarita mix, for the
first 2 hours of my party.
When I originally thought of this idea, I just figured it was
something different to have at my party, but the feedback I
got was great, so now I do it every year.
It costs me so little for the drinks (since the venue gives it
to me very cheap) and the people that were serving up the shots
made a ton in tips from doing it for only two hours that I no
longer have to pay them anything out of my pocket...so the costs
are minimal but the feedback from clients is great!
My last piece of BONUS advice for you...
Cinco de Mayo is one of those holiday's that you get new and
random people showing up to your event. This is a holiday that
not just the hard-core partier or your "regulars" will attend,
so BE SURE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS!!!
Make sure you have someone there collecting email addresses
and contact information so that you can contact these people
about future events and turn them into your regular customers.
Your contact list is the heart of your business so be sure
to always add as many names and emails as you can, especially
on Holidays that bring new clients to you.
